Located in the very heart of the city, Botanical Garden is
one of the must-see places on the map of every tourist who visits Wrocław. It
is a place where we can not only admire many flowers, herbs and trees (we can
see over 11.500 species and varieties of plants from all over the world), but
also find a quiet space for ourselves, where we can relax and meditate, away
from our everyday rowdy, hectic life. Even though Botanical Garden is
surrounded by the very popular, thus crowded Wrocław streets, it is a very
peaceful and quiet place. The moment we step into the Garden, we are welcomed
by the aromatic smell of plants and we can submerge ourselves in the serene
atmosphere of the Garden.
There are two entrances to the Garden – from Kanonia Street
and one from H. Sienkiewicza Street. There is one reception office not more
than a few steps from each entry, where we can buy souvenirs, postcards and
pamphlets – both in Polish and English. The pamphlets presents us with the map
of the garden as well as with information about each of the garden's sections,
which are: Plant taxonomy (central section of the Garden), Arboretum (a
recreation park filled with various types of trees), Aquatic Plants (a
beautiful water pond with a fountain), Aquaria, Alpinarium (a collection of
plants which usually grow in the mountains), Palm House, Cactus House and the
sections devoted to plant biology, plant morphology and ornamental plants. Many
benches and tables are located all around the Garden – both in open spaces as
well as in smaller and more intimate lanes. There is also a cafe, where we can
buy food and drinks. We can visit the plant shop if we wish to grow some of the
less exotic of the plants we've seen during our trip to the Garden. During
winter we can also buy Christmas trees there.
The Garden is open from the beginning of March to the end of
October from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Normal price of the tickets is 15 PLN, reduced
price is 5 PLN (pupils, students, pensioners). Those who can come in free of
charge are: preschool children, guides and teachers with a group of pupils (no
more than 15 persons), newlyweds in wedding gowns, adult disabled visitors and
their carers. We can also buy a seasonal ticket for 200 PLN. Drinking alcohol,
destroying plants or picking up seeds, walking dogs (with the exception of
guide dogs), using radios and photographing for commercial purposes are not
allowed in the Garden.
